The short version
We keep what the game needs to run: your account, your characters, what happens to them, and what you say in chat. We do not run advertising or tracking. This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else.
Who is responsible
OdysseyTales is run by Provant. Questions about your data: [email protected].
Your account
- Your email address, your account name and your password. The password is kept only as a one-way hash, never as you typed it.
- Whether you have confirmed your email address, and the one-time links we send you to confirm it or to reset your password, kept as hashes until they expire or are used. We email you from [email protected], sent through Cloudflare.
Staying logged in
- Each login keeps a record: a hash of its token, when it began and ends, and your browser's identification string. An ended login is deleted after 30 days.
- If you tick Keep me logged in, your browser holds one cookie for it, readable only by the game's server. It lasts 30 days from your last visit and never more than 90 days from the password.
- Your browser also keeps your login for the open tab, and your window sizes, chat tab and display choices, on your own device. None of that is sent to us.
Your characters
- Each character's name, family name, where it stands, its health, level, experience and infamy, what it carries and wears, its coins, its look, its action bar, the parts of the map it has explored and who may invite it to a party.
- A record of every item and coin that moves between characters, creatures, chests and the ground, with the time. Item records are kept for 90 days and coin records for one year.
- Every player-against-player kill, for 90 days, and a combat log for 30 days, both deleted by the server after that time.
Chat
- Every message you send is kept for 90 days: its words, the time, your account and character, where it was said (the map, or the channel) and, for a whisper or an action aimed at someone, whom it was for. It is then deleted.
- Only the moderation team reads it, through the moderation tools, to settle reports. The game itself never shows it to anyone.
- We do not keep the text of a message the server refused, the addresses of the people who sent or heard a message, or a name lookup.
- The people you block, by account.
- When a moderator mutes a channel for you, that mute lasts only as long as it is set.
Moderation
- When a moderator warns, kicks, freezes or bans an account, character or address, a record of the action, who made it, when, and the reason they gave. These records are never edited or deleted, and are kept for two years.
Reports you send us
- When you send a bug report or an idea from the game: your title and words, the page address, your browser's identification string, the game version, a console log from the page, your family name and account, and a screenshot only if you attach one. A report is kept until it is resolved, then for 90 days.
Network addresses
- The game's server uses your network address to limit how fast one place can try things, and holds it only in memory. We write an address to the database only when a moderator bans it.
- Cloudflare serves this website and the game page, and sees your address as any host does. We do not add tracking or analytics to either.
